Ferguson issues Welbeck backing

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has told striker Danny Welbeck he is an important member of the squad at Old Trafford.

With the arrival of Robin van Persie and England international Wayne Rooney also at the club, it looked like Welbeck would struggle for game time.

Despite Van Persie and Rooney usually earning the starting places for the Red Devils, Ferguson expects Welbeck to make a big contribution this term and has assured the 21-year-old academy product he will have time on the pitch.

The United manager said: "It's difficult for me (to leave Welbeck out).

"Robin van Persie has come in, we've got Wayne Rooney. You tend to rely on the experience of these players.

"What we've got to try and do is alternate selections so that Danny feels he is making a contribution. At the moment, we're tending to play him wide left, which I think he is capable of playing.”

Welbeck will be hoping to impress this weekend when United make the trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City.

United can be backed at 1.44 to take all three points at Carrow Road on Saturday, Norwich are 7.00 to pick up an unlikely win and the draw is 4.50.
