Wenger confirms Wilshere blow

Jack Wilshere is out of Arsenal's Champions League round of 16 decider against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The midfielder picked up an ankle injury in the defeat by north London rivals Tottenham and will also miss England's World Cup qualifier double-header in San Marino and Montenegro, as well as Saturday's Premier League trip to take on Swansea.

The Gunners trail 3-1 to the runaway Bundesliga leaders from the Champions League first leg at the Emirates and head to Germany available to back at 26.00 to qualify. Arsenal ars also quoted 201.00 in the Champions League outright betting.

The Frenchman revealed Wilshere has been recuperating in Dubai after sustaining the problem at White Hart Lane on 3rd March.

He said: "Wilshere has an inflamed ankle, the other ankle. He will be out for Bayern, Swansea and for England.

"Hopefully for the Premier League, he will only miss one game because of the international break."

He added: "I noticed recently he has had to dig deep for us, it's not welcome for us but he needed a breather.

"But it's more preventative. We trust our people who are specialists."

England face San Marino on 22nd March and then travel to Montenegro four days later for a game which could decide which nation tops Group H and secures an automatic place at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
