Cech staying positive

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insists the Blues must concentrate on other competitions after a torrid December.

The Champions League holders exited the competition in the group stage and have also said goodbye to boss Roberto Di Matteo, who was controversially replaced by interim gaffer Rafa Benitez.

They have also slipped off the Premier League pace as Manchester United and Manchester City have pulled away, but Cech believes there is still plenty of room for optimism over the coming months.

The Stamford Bridge-based club are currently over in Japan playing in the FIFA Club World Cup and will be hoping they return to England with a much-needed shot-in-the-arm.

Cech feels the squad can cope with the extra demands of playing in the Europa League.

The 30-year-old said: "We must be positive and we are now in the Europa League and can still win a European trophy this season.

"It is a trophy we have not won before and it something for us to focus on. Playing on a Thursday won't make much difference.

"We are still in the FA Cup and Capital One Cup, and we are still in the race for the Premier League. There are still over 20 games to go and it could yet turn out to be an amazing season."

The Blues are now 15/2 to win the FA Cup this season, while they can be backed at 8/1 to triumph in the Europa League.
