Two-time defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic has warned that the Australian Open could throw up some surprises.
The Serb is aiming to become the first man in the Open era to win in Melbourne three times in a row, but is wary of thinking too far ahead, as the first Grand Slam of the year sometimes throws up a major shock or two.
Djokovic told reporters: "You come here fresh. You're motivated and inspired to play some good tennis.
"This is my most successful Grand Slam, but this is also known for a lot of surprises, players who have been reaching the final stages who are not expected to."
Djokovic is 10/11 to triumph in Melbourne, with four-time champion Roger Federer 5/1 and two-time beaten finalist Andy Murray 11/4.
However, Djokovic is also cautious about thinking that the top three seeds are the only contenders for the title, with Rafael Nadal still sidelined by illness and injury.
He added: "It's probably expected that the three of us, and Nadal of course, would still be main candidates to win all the major titles.
"But, you know, I wouldn't underestimate Del Potro, Tsonga, Ferrer, Berdych - anybody who is in top 10."
