Lendl warns Murray over Grand Slam boost

Coach Ivan Lendl has warned Andy Murray not to expect too much of a bonus for having broken his Grand Slam duck when the Australian Open starts in Melbourne.

Murray won the US Open to end his major wait, with many pundits predicting that that will give the world number three a massive boost for the 2013 campaign.

However, Lendl is wary of reading too much into such an effect, saying: "I think it is overrated. It may be worth a point here or there with lesser players, but I promise you it makes no difference with the top guys.

"It helps you because of you, but not because of what they are going to do. They have won a lot, they have been there, seen it and done it - they are very experienced.

"Roger (Federer) and Novak (Djokovic) have more of those experiences than Andy does at this stage."

Murray opens up against Dutchman Robin Haase in Melbourne and is 1/80 to win the match and 7/2 to win 3-1 in sets, while the Scot is 5/2 to go on and win the Australian Open, having twice lost in the final.

Meanwhile, Murray will be joined in the main draw in Melbourne by Jamie Baker, after he secured a superb 6-4 1-6 6-3 win over American Donald Young in the third and final qualifying round.

Baker's reward in a first round clash with Lukas Rosol, who caused a sensation at Wimbledon last year by knocking out Rafael Nadal in a five-set thriller, with Baker 5/2 to reach round two.

James Ward missed out on the chance of emulating Baker as he lost 6-3 7-5 to Julian Reister of Germany.
