Torres behind Chelsea striker search

Chelsea's Fernando Torres is behind the clubs bid to sign a new striker in January according to the club's manager Rafa Benitez.

The Spain international is starting to edge back to the form that made him such a big name at Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, as he looks to get his name on the scoresheet against Aston Villa on Sunday.

However Chelsea are looking to strengthen in the forward department and Benitez believes Torres will enjoy the competition for places at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "He knows that we need this competition, we know that we need this competition.

"The problem in January always is, 'Which one?'. Which player is available, which player is good enough to be here in a top side?

"So, it's not easy, but I think it will be positive for everyone.

"And Fernando is ready to fight for his position. He has no problem because he has a lot of confidence and he is enjoying now his football."

The Blues are 1.33 to defeat Villa and 7.00 to win by a 2-0 margin, while Benitez's side are 2.00 to keep a clean sheet against the Midlanders, who won 3-1 at Liverpool last time out.
