Wenger positive over Arsenal future
Arsene Wenger will build his Arsenal team around Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs and Aaron Ramsey after they signed new deals.
The Gunners have been hurt in recent years by their big name players leaving the Emirates Stadium as their contracts came to an end.
However, the quintet of British youngsters have given the north London club a much-needed boost by agreeing new long-term deals with Arsenal.
Wilshere recently admitted he would be extending his stay with the Gunners and has been as good as his word by putting pen to paper on a new deal.
The news that promising youngsters Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs and Jenkinson have copied him will go down well with Arsenal fans after a difficult season so far.
Wenger believes the future looks bright with these five players on board and is ready to build a new team around them.
"We are delighted that these five young players have all signed new long-term contracts. The plan is to build a team around a strong basis of young players, in order to get them to develop their talent at the club," manager Arsene Wenger told the club's official website.
"Jack is certainly the best known, the leader of this group - but the other four players are exceptional footballers, and we're very happy that we could conclude their new deals at the same time.
Wenger will now hope Theo Walcott follows suit and signs a new deal after a prolonged saga over his contract, which expires in the summer.
The Gunners, who are 10/11 to finish in the top four, have been given something of a Christmas boost with the news their game against West Ham on Boxing Day has had to be postponed due to a transport strike in London.
