Wenger seeks Walcott solution
Arsene Wenger watched Theo Walcott help Arsenal bounce back from defeat by Bradford City - then urged him to sign a new contract.
The England flyer scored in a 5-2 away romp against Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Monday night in his preferred position of central striker. The Gunners can now be backed at 5/6 in the Premier League top-four finish market.
The 23-year-old sees his contract run out at the end of the season but has yet to commit to a new long-term deal.
"It is not my decision - it is Theo's decision as well. If it is my decision it is quickly done," said Wenger.
"I believe he has been educated at Southampton and Arsenal and he has become a top player. I hope that when he considers his future he will consider Arsenal is the best place for him and sign for us."
Wenger will be wary of losing Walcott in the same disappointing circumstances as Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri, who left the Emirates in the final year of their contracts.
The north Londoners are understood to be willing to pay him around £75,000 per week but Walcott - who signed from Southampton as a 16-year-old in 2006 - has yet to agree terms. Arsenal are quoted 8/11 to make it three Premier League wins on the bounce at Wigan (15/4 draw 11/4 - 90 minutes) at the DW Stadium on Saturday.
