Ruiz sidelined until the New Year

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed Bryan Ruiz will be out until January after aggravating his hamstring injury.

Ruiz has already missed three weeks after picking up the injury during the defeat to Sunderland and it had been hoped he would return against Newcastle on Monday evening. He is now expected to be out for another four weeks after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation.

Jol's side are 8.50 to defeat Newcastle 2-1, while a goalless draw can be backed at 11.00. A clean sheet for the Cottagers is available at 2.75.

"He came back on Monday then he had a setback and he will be out for at least four weeks," said Jol.

"It is the same injury. He was in the final stage of his rehabilitation and he aggravated his hamstring muscle again.

"He has had intensive screening and that highlighted some problems."

Jol revealed the injury is "structural" and recurring, but the club hope they have now found the right treatment for the Costa Rican.

He added: "Hopefully he will be fine in four weeks now but of course it is a big disappointment.

"As you know, Bryan was a vital player for us and every time he played, like against Arsenal, Southampton and Wigan, he was quite important, but we've got other players. Good luck to him and he will be back after Christmas."
