Roberto Martinez will make a bold case for Wigan Athletic to splash the cash in January.
The Latics boss admits he is currently down to the bare bones in his squad following a spate of injuries in recent weeks.
Wigan, who host fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers this weekend at the DW Stadium, could have as many as eight first-team players missing and are priced 3.25 in the Premier League to be relegated market.
The likes of Ryo Miyaichi, Antolin Alacaraz and Albert Crusat have been propping up the treatment table and Martinez will also be without the suspended duo Gary Caldwell of Manuel Figueroa.
Wigan owner Dave Whelan has already sanctioned a move for 26-year-old midfielder Roger Espinoza, who it is hoped will arrive in the New Year when his contract expires with Major League Soccer outfit Sporting Kansas City.
Martinez feels a need to bring in at least two or three new faces if the club want to avoid another relegation battle in the months ahead. Latics can be backed at 15.00 in the Premier League to finish bottom market.
The Spaniard is planning to sit down with Whelan at the start of next week to establish what funds are available to him.
On Espinoza, Martinez said: "We're looking forward to seeing if we can get that one done successfully. Roger is a player we have been following for a long, long time."
