8/1 Westminster Voting Age Reduced

8/1 WESTMINSTER VOTING AGE TO BE CUT

WITH a debate due to take place in the House this week, led by Lib Dem backbencher Stephen Williams on reducing the voting age from 18 to 16 William Hill are offering odds of 8/1 that any reduction to the age for voting in Westminster General or by-elections will occur before 2020.

This is a cause Mr Williams has pursued for years - putting a bill to the House in 2005 - and with the Scottish government pushing for 16 and 17-year-olds to be able to vote in the forthcoming independence referendum, he and his supporters may scent an opportunity.on the lowering of the voting age from 18 to 16.

'Despite some support for a reduction to the voting age we think it is very unlikely to happen before 2020' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
